Styx | Contemporary Realism by M.S. Miller

Styx transforms a descending waterfall into something more than a landscape. Inspired by the primordial Greek river and goddess associated with sacred oaths, M. S. Miller approaches the scene as a place of encounter—a threshold shaped by water, stone, light, and the suggestion of forces beyond what can be seen.

Created in watercolor paint, watercolor pencil, and gouache on Arches Aquarelle watercolor paper, the composition combines atmospheric washes with more defined passages of rock and moving water. Smoky charcoal and blue-gray tones create depth through the upper section, while rust, terracotta, moss, olive, and cream bring warmth and physical presence to the foreground.

The vertical flow gives the work a strong sense of movement, but its mood remains contemplative rather than restless. The result is a contemporary realism piece that explores transcendence, endurance, sacred obligation, and the unseen forces that shape human experience.

13Lemons currently ships within the United States. Orders are typically processed within 2–3 business days, although custom or limited-edition pieces may require additional preparation time. Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on destination, artwork size and selected shipping method. Shipping after dispatch typically takes 7–10 business days, and tracking information is provided when the order ships.

Undamaged artwork may be returned within 14 days of delivery after requesting a return. A 25% restocking fee applies, return shipping is the buyer's responsibility, and the work must be returned in its original condition and packaging. Custom or commissioned work and items marked Final Sale are non-returnable.
